about culture barbershop

Culture Barbershop is more than a place to get a haircut—it is a community hub where conversations, mentorship, leadership, and personal growth come together. Founded by Kevin Clifton, Culture Barbershop was built on the belief that a barbershop can be more than a business; it can be a safe space where people of all ages feel welcomed, respected, heard, and inspired. Since opening its Brooklyn Center location in 2024, Culture Barbershop has continued a vision Kevin began years earlier while serving clients throughout the Brooklyn Center and Brooklyn Park communities. After more than 10 years as a barber, Kevin has seen firsthand that some of the most important changes in a person’s life begin with a simple conversation in the barber chair.

Inspired by the energy, creativity, and unity of hip-hop culture, Culture Barbershop embraces the tradition of the neighborhood barbershop as a gathering place where ideas are shared, relationships are built, and lives are positively influenced. Every haircut is an opportunity to encourage confidence, strengthen character, and remind people that they are part of something bigger than themselves. Whether someone walks through our doors for a haircut, advice, mentorship, or simply a conversation, they become part of the Culture family.

Our work extends far beyond the walls of the barbershop. Through our Barbershop Talks program, we create meaningful discussions that help young people and adults develop leadership skills, strengthen relationships, make positive decisions, and prepare for life’s challenges. Through our Leaders in Training (L.I.T.) program, we partner directly with schools to provide students with engaging lessons on leadership, financial literacy, entrepreneurship, healthy relationships, coping skills, community service, and personal responsibility. We believe learning doesn’t stop when the school day ends—it continues wherever young people have caring adults willing to invest in their future.

Culture Barbershop is also committed to bringing opportunities directly into the community. Throughout the years, we have partnered with schools, nonprofits, local businesses, government agencies, and community leaders to organize youth outings, job fairs, community give-back events, mentorship programs, educational workshops, sporting events, family activities, and leadership conferences. From taking youth to basketball and baseball games to hosting conversations that help bridge the gap between schools, families, and neighborhoods, our goal is always the same: create experiences that build confidence, expand opportunities, and strengthen our community.

At the heart of everything we do is our mission: We Got Us. Those three words represent more than a slogan—they represent a commitment to one another. We believe lasting change happens when communities work together, invest in one another, and take ownership of building a better future. Our mission is to help people recognize their value, discover their purpose, and become leaders in their homes, schools, workplaces, and neighborhoods.

Everything we teach is rooted in our 4M Framework—Mind, Mood, Money, and Mouth. We believe a strong Mind helps people make wise decisions and think beyond their current circumstances. A healthy Mood teaches emotional awareness, resilience, and positive coping skills. Understanding Money creates financial responsibility, entrepreneurship, and long-term success. Using your Mouth wisely reminds us that our words have the power to encourage, inspire, lead, and create change. Together, these four principles help build confident individuals who are prepared not only to succeed personally but to positively impact others.

Culture Barbershop exists to prove that a haircut can be the beginning of a conversation, a conversation can become mentorship, mentorship can inspire leadership, and leadership can transform an entire community. Every person who walks through our doors is another opportunity to build relationships, create hope, and remind our community of one simple truth:

We Got Us.

Our Mission

We believe strong communities are built through conversation, mentorship, education, and accountability.

Culture Barbershop serves as a gathering place where people from all backgrounds can connect, learn, grow, and support one another.

Through events, leadership discussions, youth programs, and community partnerships, we strive to create lasting impact that reaches beyond the barbershop chair.

Letter from the founder

Every Generation Inherits Something.

Some inherit wealth.

Some inherit struggle.

Some inherit opportunity.

Some inherit obstacles.

But every generation inherits a choice.

Throughout my years of serving young people—whether inside the barbershop, in schools, community organizations, churches, or through the Leaders in Training program—I noticed something that continued to repeat itself. Young people were constantly being told what not to do, but very few people were teaching them who they could become.

Many knew how to survive.
Few had been taught how to build.
That realization inspired Two Sons.
The story isn’t really about two boys.
It’s about two mindsets.
One mindset chooses comfort over growth.
The other chooses purpose over convenience.
One waits for opportunity.
The other creates opportunity.
Neither path is easy.
But every decision we make moves us closer to the person we eventually become.
The Two Sons Leadership Initiative was created to help young people understand that leadership begins long before someone gives you a title.
Leadership begins with the choices you make when no one is watching.
It begins with how you think.
How you respond to failure.
How you manage money.
How you treat people.
How you serve your community.
How you prepare the next generation.
This curriculum was designed to help students move beyond simply earning a paycheck and toward building lives of purpose, ownership, service, and legacy.

Our goal is not simply to produce successful students.

Our goal is to develop responsible leaders, compassionate citizens, thoughtful entrepreneurs, and individuals who understand that true success is measured not only by what you achieve, but by what you leave behind for others.

If this curriculum helps even one young person believe that their future is greater than their past, then this work has fulfilled its purpose.

Thank you for choosing to invest in the next generation.

Together, we are not simply teaching lessons. We are building leaders.
